France’s Institut Agro has awarded the Doctor Honoris Causa degree (the highest degree in French higher education) to William Cheung, professor at the Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries at the University of British Columbia.
Dr. Cheung received this award in Rennes, France on Friday, January 26, 2024, at which time he also presented an Open Lecture on the theme: “The future of fish and fisheries under climate change.”
Dr. William Cheung is an internationally renowned scientist, holder of many prestigious awards, and ranked by Reuters among the 20 most influential scientists on climate. His work focuses on the effects of climate change on marine biodiversity and fisheries, and on finding solutions for a desirable and sustainable oceanic future. He is a co-author of the recent IPCC and IPBES reports and actively participates in the Climate and Biodiversity COPs. He has been actively collaborating with the teaching-researchers of the Institut Agro since 2016.
